Ice cream is likely the world's favorite dessert, loved by children and elders alike. Ice cream companies around the world are making bank and the frozen dessert is offered in every flavor imaginable to man. Here are some yummy facts about ice cream:
- The first ice cream ever invented was in seventh-century China. A group of people called ‘ice men’ were ordered by the then king Tang of Shang to concoct a cold milk dessert, which also contained camphor and flour, to give a cooling effect.

- Romans had their own version of ice cream. They sent slaves up to the peaks of the mountains to collect snow, to which they added fruit and flavors.
- The light texture of the ice cream is due to the air present in the ice cream. In fact, all ice creams are essentially 50% air.
- The ice cream cone was first thought up by a Syrian man at the St Louis World's Fair in 1904. Ernest E Hamwi had a waffle booth where he used the waffle batter to make cones to help out his neighbor's booth that was selling ice-creams and had run out of cups.
- July was declared the National Ice Cream month in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan.

- In Great Britain, ice cream trucks can only play music from 12 noon to 7 pm in the evening. Before and after this period, however, the trucks are only allowed to ring the handbell so as to avoid disturbing people.
- The first person to create an ice cream truck was Harry Burt in the United States who started his business in 1920.
- There’s uniquely flavored ice cream available specifically in Ireland. The ice cream is flavored with caramelized brown bread and was first invented during tough times when the Irish were worried about not wasting food and thus found a way to turn old bread into a scrumptious dessert.
- Centuries of experimentation means that today, an ice cream/cocktail hybrid also exists. Chefs have come up with alcoholic ice cream that contains bourbon, tequila, and whiskey.

- The Italians have their own version of ice cream called gelato. Gelato is largely popular all over the world and Italy produces around 6.8 billion scoops of it and produces 19% of the ice cream in all of Europe.
- In the ancient Persian empire, people used to save snow underground, a dessert known as the ‘yachkal.’ On a hot summer day, they would serve the saved snow with grape juice poured over it to cool off.
